Connecticut

NECC is working with the Connecticut Department of Education's Bureau of Accountability and Improvement to design and facilitate meetings with key stakeholders to review findings on a district with long-standing needs for improvement. NECC will assist the Department in developing a turnaround approach and plan of action to serve as a model for support in other struggling districts. Other Year 6 NECC work builds on prior work on developing systems of support for English language learners (particularly in districts with small numbers of English language learners). NECC is also assisting the Department in integrating Common Core standards into instruction for English language learners.

Previous Center work with the Connecticut Department of Education included developing a guidance document on formative assessment and an annotated bibliography for teachers and administrators and assisting in the development of strategies to integrate issues related to student mobility in high-priority districts in district improvement plans. NECC also supported a statewide forum on School, Family, and Community Partnerships featuring national expert Dr. Joyce Epstein on the enormous changes in the field of family and community involvement.
